In a continued effort to combat kidnapping and related crimes, the Edo State Government has demolished a property in Eshioriri-Erah, Owan East Local Government Area, allegedly linked to kidnapping activities.
The demolished house belonged to an elderly man named Karimu Audu, accused of acting as an informant for kidnappers operating in the Owan and Esan forests. Allegations against Audu include providing critical information to suspected kidnappers, hosting them overnight, and supplying them with food. Villagers, speaking anonymously, claimed that those who opposed his actions had either mysteriously disappeared or faced violent attacks on their farms.

At the demolition site, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Affairs, Mr. Akhere Paul, emphasized the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards complicity in kidnapping. He stated that the demolition serves as a warning to everyone that if they conspire with criminals, they will face the law.
Similarly, the Commander of the Edo State Task Force, SP Michael Anetor, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to eradicating kidnapping. He noted that while it is unfortunate to see properties destroyed, such actions are necessary to restore peace and deter others from aiding kidnappers.

However, Audu denied the allegations, insisting that his dealings with herders were legitimate and in line with his role within the community. He explained that his responsibilities were limited to collecting annual payments and distributing them as required, denying any involvement in providing information to criminals.
Eshioriri-Erah is a border community between Owan East and Esan West local government areas, known for its vast forest connecting Edo North and Edo Central Senatorial Districts—a terrain often exploited by criminal elements.
