In a courtroom in Lagos, Nigeria, on a Friday in early October 2023, something quite important happened. Justice Nicholas Oweibo, the judge in charge, took action against the famous Nigerian singer, Naira Marley, whose real name is Azeez Fashola.
Why did this happen? Well, Naira Marley was in hot water with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). They had brought forward 11 serious charges against him, all related to schemes and fraud with credit cards.

When the court session resumed that day, Naira Marley’s lawyer, Olalekan Ojo, had some news to share. He explained that his client couldn’t make it to court because the police had detained him. Why? It had to do with a serious matter – the police wanted to ask Naira Marley some questions about a person named Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad, and a possible connection to a murder.
With Naira Marley’s absence, Ojo asked the judge for more time – an adjournment for the trial.

But the prosecutor, Bilkisu Buhari, had a different request. She asked the judge to issue something called a “production warrant.” This fancy term means a special order to ensure Naira Marley will definitely be in court on the next date they set for the trial.
So, Judge Oweibo agreed with the prosecutor’s request and signed that special order. As a result, everyone will have to wait until October 30, 2023, for the trial to continue. This date should give Naira Marley enough time to sort out the police matter and be present in court for his legal proceedings.
More to come subsequently…
